Gunman Opens Fire During 'Trainwreck' Screening at Louisiana Theater

Note: Earlier reports stated two had been killed, including the gunman. Police have since confirmed a third death.

As many as eight people are injured and three are dead after a gunman opened fire during a screening of Trainwreck on Thursday night at Grand 16 Theater in in Lafayette, Louisiana.

One witness described the shooter as “an older white man.” He reportedly began shooting at the audience only minutes into the film, before ultimately turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft confirmed to reporters on Thursday night that he knew of two deaths, including that of the gunman. He noted there were "a number of injuries," although he did not immediately provide further information.

CBS News reported that three patients had been taken to nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment.

Police have since confirmed the gunman was a "lone white male, aged 58." They are not yet releasing his identity.

The Judd Apatow-directed Trainwreck, starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, opened last Friday.

Schumer responded late Thursday evening on Twitter: "My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana," she said.
