Apple Said to Be Planning TV Streaming Service

Only days after announcing plans to launch HBO Now next month, Apple is reportedly in talks with other television networks with the aim of debuting a scaled down cable-like bundle of about 25 networks for live streaming.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the service would start around $30 to $40 a month. That could essentially be half or even a third less than what most Americans spend on cable; however, it wouldn't necessarily be a match for all.

ABC, CBS and Fox are said to be part of the parent companies involved, but as The Next Web points out, a previously failed partnership between Apple and Comcast has left NBCUniversal—which is owned by the latter—out of these discussions.

Content on the new service would be accessible to those with Apple TV as well as iPads and iPhones. Sling would likely be a close competitor, as the streaming service currently offers live streaming of cable networks such as ESPN, TBS, TNT, CNN, AMC and Disney starting at $20.
