Dan Harmon to Return For Final Season of 'Community'

Looks like it's actually happening! All the bittersweet elements are coming together for what appears to be Community's forthcoming final season. After weeks of rumors, it seems the show's creator and former executive producer, Dan Harmon, is returning after a roller coaster year.

We previously learned that NBC's 13-episode order of the series suggested the show may be ending its run during the 2013-14 season. Since then, both Harmon and key former Community writer-producer Chris McKenna were reportedly approached about rejoining the show for its final chapter.

Harmon previously left the cult comedy after a lengthy public feud with actor Chevy Chase, who made a spectacle of himself last season (sans Harmon) and ultimately quit the show before the season ended. Harmon was replaced as showrunner last season by David Guarascio and Moses Port, both with a one-year deal. They have reportedly opted not to return.

With Chase out of the picture and the show heading into its final days, Harmon responded to fans on Saturday via Twitter, saying, ”Yes yes yes! I’m back I’m back I’m back. You can thank @joelmchale.”

Although no official word has come from NBC/Sony, one of the show's co-stars, Gillian Jacobs, followed up with Harmon's tweet and welcomed him back to the show.

Community is not yet on the schedule for the 2013-14 season, likely being benched to replace one of NBC's many new shows when they fail to meet expectations.
