Zach Braff is returning to television—and to ABC, with a new comedy pilot at by the network.
According to Deadline, the former Scrubs star will star in Start-Up (working title, likely to change), a single-camera project for which he'll also direct the pilot. "Multiple networks" were said to have been eyeing it.
Start-Up is based on a podcast by Alex Blumberg, with Braff portraying a man in his mid-30s with a wife and two kids who quits his job and sets out to open his own business. It's also a bit of reunion, as Scrubs co-executive producer Matt Tarses is writing the script and co-executive producing alongside Braff and Blumberg, among others.
Scrubs ran for seven seasons on NBC before relocating to ABC for its final two runs, which ended in 2010. Braff's most recent TV appearances include guest spots on Inside Amy Schumer and Undateable.
Braff also starred in, directed and co-wrote the 2014 film Wish I Was Here, which was largely funded by the actor's Kickstarter campaign. And he appears with the likes of James Franco, Josh Hutcherson, Selena Gomez and Bryan Cranston in the upcoming drama In Dubious Battle, which premieres next week at the Venice Film Festival.
