Justin Timberlake Defends Miley Cyrus, Discusses Future Music

Justin Timberlake stopped by New York's Hot 97 on Tuesday, and he had plenty to say.

Just days after his big VMAs performance and onstage reunion with *NSYNC bandmates, JT discussed Sunday night's events (include Mileygate), his friendship with JAY Z and Beyoncé, as well as future music plans (post-20/20 Experience: 2 of 2, which arrives on Sept. 27).

Hanging out with Jay and Bey after their New York show:
“I did get both of them standing on a couch ... Me and my wife get along with them so well. For all the stuff that surrounds us, they’re so normal and just nice people. They’re just good people—my kinda people.”

His Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award:
“[The accolades] are not why you do it. To even be mentioned in the shadow of the GOAT—to even be mentioned in the shadow of MJ, that’s when you’re like, ‘Whoa!’ It’s humbling. It feels sacred in a way.”

Miley & the Bears:
“It’s the VMAs. It’s not the Grammys. We’re talking about Madonna in a wedding dress humping the stage, we’re talking about Britney [Spears] doing a striptease. This cycle is not uncommon. … I’m saying she’s young, take it easy on her. I think the song’s jammin’ when I hear it on the radio ... I like all the bears. To me, it’s almost like if something like that doesn’t happen at the VMAs, then I feel like it was boring.”

Post-20/20 Plans:
“I have a lot of ideas about even beyond this double album where a sound could go from the songs we’ve just done, and funny enough, had conversations with Tim[baland] and Pharrell about it ... I don’t know that I would take as big a break this time because it really comes down to, do you have something to say with music? And if you don’t, wait until you have something to say."
