As southern Louisiana recovers from historic flooding, Taylor Swift is lending a helping hand with a $1 million donation toward relief efforts.

The Associated Press reported Tuesday night Swift was also encouraging those "who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time."

Noting how she began her 1989 tour in the state last year, Swift said: "The wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking."

According to Gov. John Bel Edwards' office, at least 40,000 homes have been affected by the torrential rains and subsequent flooding, with more than 60,000 having registered for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 11 flood-related deaths had been confirmed by authorities.
