Just three episodes into its sixth season, American Horror Story has been renewed by FX for a seventh installment, which will air next year.

The network pointed to the limited series' impressive ratings, with the current edition, AHS: Roanoke, premiering as the network's third most-watched telecast ever and ranking No. 5 in the key 18-49 demo. It is currently averaging an increase of 29% over last season, AHS: Hotel, in 18-49 (4.78 million to 3.70 million) and up 25% in total viewers (6.89 million to 5.52 million).

In a statement released Tuesday, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf applauded the show's "endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining" storytelling, adding the network is "honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment."

Co-creator Ryan Murphy recently told Entertainment Weekly the seventh season will feature a big twist, noting it's "a narratively strange idea." He said he's already been in discussions with actors.

Additionally, Murphy said he's been working on a top-secret potential eighth season, which he's been developing off the grid with just one writer. "It’s like a 2 year project that we’ll continue to work to on it on the sly and not tell anybody," he said.

The fourth episode of American Horror Story: Roanoke airs this Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST.
