Chris Meloni has signed on to star in Syfy's new pilot Happy!, which is an adaption of Grant Morrison's graphic novel of the same name.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Monday afternoon Meloni will executive produce the pilot, which is being written by Darick Robertson, Morrison and Brian Taylor, with Taylor also directing.

Syfy had ordered the pilot back in September. It follows Nick Sax (Meloni), who is described as an "intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal." After losing his great life as a celebrated detective, he's now on the other side of the law. And after a hit goes wrong, his life is once again changed in a major way. 

Meloni's Happy! role is one of several he's had since leaving Law & Order: SVU in 2011. He's currently co-starring in the WGN America slavery drama Underground and he'll also appear next year in Netflix's Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.
