While winter might have come onscreen, there's nothing but sunshine over at HBO headquarters, because as expected, Game of Thrones attracted a massive audience for its season 7 premiere on Sunday night.

HBO confirmed on Monday afternoon the juggernaut series was viewed by 10.1 million viewers, shattering its previous telecast record from the season 6 finale last year, with 8.9 million viewers, while also growing 27% over last season's premiere.

Additionally, when counting DVR and streaming viewers, the show was viewed by 16.1 million, by far the largest audience for any HBO series to date.

Last night's premiere also marked a peak for viewership across HBO Go and HBO Now, helping Game of Thrones increase its total viewers—including streaming—by 50% over last season's premiere.
