As speculation for next year's Super Bowl 50 halftime show kicks into high gear, it seems the NFL wants Bruno Mars back, less than two years after he headlined the 2014 event.

Entertainment Weekly reported Tuesday night that Mars has once again been offered the gig. But according to Billboard, sources close to the ongoing discussions say the singer has instead been asked to perform and "curate" the show, suggesting it would be more of a star-studded affair.

The 2014 halftime show was the second-highest rated in history, with 115 million viewers, bested only by this year's Katy Perry-starring show, which attracted 121 million viewers.

While it may seem early to discuss next year's halftime show headliner, Perry was confirmed as the 2015 performer last October. Super Bowl 50 is set for Feb. 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

A rep for Bruno Mars didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
