Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in the N.W.A. biopic, has signed on as the male lead for Fox's upcoming 24 reboot.

Following some lengthy negotiations, the actor will play military hero Eric Carter opposite a female lead who has yet to be cast.

Titled 24: Legacy, the new pilot will follow Eric and the female character (a former head of CTU), whose paths intersect when the former's past catches up to him as America faces a large-scale terror threat.

Kiefer Sutherland's original protagonist Jack Bauer is not a a part of the new show, although a number of the show's production veterans are behind the reboot, including writers Manny Coto and Evan Katz as well as Stephen Hopkins, who directed the original 24 pilot.
