After teasing new material for the past few weeks, Tegan and Sara on Thursday released their shimmering new single "Boyfriend."

According to Sara Quinn, the song was inspired by her relationship with "a girl who had never dated a girl before ... she was treating me like her boyfriend, and I was trying to get her to tie it down. I wanted her to make it official with me. "I don't want to be your secret anymore," the song's lyrics declare.

"Boyfriend," which premiered this afternoon on Beats 1 radio, is the first offering from Tegan and Sara's upcoming eighth album, Love You to Death, which is out on June 3.
