As part of its 2017-18 season upfront presentation on Tuesday, ABC has released trailers for its new shows, including buzzworthy comedy The Mayor.

It stars Brandon Michael Hall as a 27-year-old struggling rapper, Courtney Rose, who runs for mayor of his town to draw attention to his music. But he proves he knows more about the city's struggles than his opponent and he unexpectedly wins the election.

At first glance, the show, helmed by actor-rapper Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Black-ish), seems like a show based on Chance the Rapper lyrics, as his song "Somewhere in Paradise" declares: "They screamin' Chano for mayor, I'm thinkin' maybe I should." But The Mayor makes it reality.

For a broadcast comedy, it's a very interesting and charming concept. And as co-star Lea Michele proves in the newly released clip, there's plenty of wit. "Courtney Rose's entire campaign is a stunt," she says, nodding to another recent campaign. "Voters won't fall for that. Not in America."

Of course, with Yvette Nicole Brown on board as Rose's mother, the cast seems solid. And as we previously reported, there have been recent efforts encouraging Chance the Rapper to run for mayor of Chicago, so the show may not be so far-fetched at all.

In the meantime, watch the trailer for The Mayor below.
