After security camera footage surfaced of Ariana Grande apparently licking unsold pastries in a donut shop and then telling a friend "I hate America," the singer has apologized for her remarks.

Affirming that she is "EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I've always made it clear that I love my country," the pop star noted that her comments made "in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, [were] taken out of context."

She clarified that because she is "an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole."

The 22-year-old, who has long been plagued by rumors that she is a bit of a diva, apologized specifically to anyone offended by her "poor choice of words," but she didn't directly mention her bizarre decision to lick multiple on-display donuts which she did not buy.
