UPDATED (11.12.13): Early projections show MMLP2 surpassed expectations and will debut at No. 1 on Wednesday with nearly 780,000 copies sold.

The "Rap God" is on track to prove himself this week as Eminem's latest full-length, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is heading toward an easy No. 1 over the competition.

Industry insiders are currently predicting that the new set, which went on sale Tuesday, could sell between 700,000 and 750,000 copies in its first week, despite early leaks more than a week ahead of the album's arrival.

If those numbers hold true, MMLP2 would nab the second-highest debut of the year, behind only Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience, which debuted with 968,000 in its first week back in March. Drake's Nothing Was the Same (658,000) currently holds the second-place slot with its first-week sales.

This will give Em his seventh No. 1 record on the Billboard 200 albums chart, surpassing Kanye West, but still short of JAY Z's 13. The Detroit rapper's last effort, 2010's Recovery, started with 741,000 copies sold in its first week.

Considering it's only the first day, these projections could certainly go up between now and the end of the tracking period on Sunday night—and that's not unlikely.
