AMC has figured out a trick to keep you tuned in longer, build up buzz for its shows and yet not have to produce many extra episodes (costly, you know).
Taking a page right out of its Breaking Bad playbook, the network confirmed that Mad Men's upcoming season will be its final run. But the show will split the season into halves of seven episodes, starting next spring with the first half, waiting another year and bringing you back in the spring of 2015 to watch the last seven episodes.
"This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with Breaking Bad, which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second-half premiere than had watched any previous episode," AMC president Charlie Collier said Tuesday. "We are determined to bring Mad Men a similar showcase."
Series creator and showrunner Matthew Weiner added: "We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience."
