North London-based artist iNKOGNiiTO isn’t just building a sound, they’re constructing an entire dimension where identity glitches and timelines fracture. Their new EP, iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY, is the latest expansion of that vision: a deeply layered body of work that examines displacement, transformation, and the quiet absurdities of being alive.

With a sound they’ve coined “Alternative Futuristic,” iNKOGNiiTO blends ambient textures, existential lyrics, and distorted vocals into something raw and otherworldly. But their creative reach goes beyond genre. Through music, visuals, storytelling, and even POC sci-fi film nights, they’re curating a space for those who feel out of place in the world and turning that disconnection into something powerful. In this interview, we step into the glitch with iNKOGNiiTO to talk shadow selves, sonic world-building, and leaning into the doom.

Can you take us into the world of iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY? What was the starting point for this EP and how did it evolve into the conceptual journey it became?

Starting point: 𖦹

You describe your sound as "Alternative Futuristic". How did that term come about, and what does it represent to you beyond genre?

  1. My music is a variant of both alternative & electronic and coming up with ‘Alternative Futuristic’ felt fitting. ‘Genre’ is subjective anyway, but I wanted to make a name for my sound because I kept getting feedback that it was niche or didn’t really fit anywhere. I often describe my sound as: futuristic/spacey atmospheres with vocal distortions, expressive drums, layered harmonies and lyrics that take on an existential/nihilistic tone - so I decided to make my own space for it through the name ‘Alternative Futuristic’.

  2. Beyond genre it’s a scene I want to build: sci-fi/dystopian films, futuristic interests, talking about different realities etc. with my music genre at the core. This is for the people that feel off in the world and I want it to center black and brown people who have continually experienced being a minority in the spaces where they want to express their alternative interests and exist as a space where we are no longer the minority.

  3. For me personally, it’s a way of living: nothing matters, life has no meaning and we can still make our own choices, change our minds & recreate our own future right now.

  4. Outside of my music, I’ve begun setting the scene with some POC Sci-Fi film nights. I’m in the states right now, but when I’m back in London I’ll be putting them back on again.

The character of iNKOGNiiTO is such a compelling creation. How did this memory-wiped, timeline-glitching persona first come to life, and how does it shape the way you approach music?

iNKOGNiiTO came to life from my shadow self, all the things I was dismissing & surpressing that I felt an innate need to embody. It was around 2018/2019 when the concept and world of iNKOGNiiTO started being written, around the same time i was deeply relating to a korean word ‘Han’ and how this feeling when held in, can end up coming out in crazy & bizarre ways. It’s difficult to translate directly into English, but it encompasses a sense of deep, unresolved sorrow, resentment & grief, rooted in historical suffering & injustice.

There's a strong visual identity running through your work. How do your visuals and music interact, and how important is world-building to your overall creative process?

In my mind they exist in the same place, but the way my music and visuals interact with each other is through the glasses. I’m aware they’re known as ‘clout goggles’ but they’re in fact iNKOGNiiTO’s eyes.

"Chemical X" explores themes of mortality and futility in such an abstract, layered way. Was that song emotionally difficult to write, or did it come naturally?

It came very naturally, it was something that was ready to come off my chest. I needed to write this song. The more you know me, the deeper it gets.

If the character of iNKOGNiiTO could leave a message for their past or future self, across all those timelines, what would it be?

Lean into the dooom.

If you could glitch into any alternate reality or timeline, where would you land and what would you be doing?

Some timeline where drive-in cinemas are still a thing, I'd happily exist in a time loop there where I can watch any film I want - as long as there’s vegan food options.

You perform under the name iNKOGNiiTO, but what's one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I love being dapped up. I freak out a bit sometimes when people enter my personal space, so hugs can be uncomfortable for me, particularly in busy spaces. A fist bump or a dap always locks me in.
