Longtime Variance favorite Marc E. Bassy kicked off a new era over the weekend with the release of his new single "Free Like Me," which features Frank Ocean and J. Cole collaborator Cory Henry on organ.

The skyrocketing new track, which keeps the focus on Bassy's velvet vocals and a slew of live instruments, is the first off his next album, expected next year, and today he's offering a set of visuals for the song, premiering on Variance.

"This is the music I make when the world is on the brink," says Bassy of the new single. "It has to have an integrity to it musically and lyrically. I can’t just say what everyone else is saying. I have to try harder than that. There’s a revolution going on in our country right now and my music has to reflect that. Not necessarily in subject matter but always in authenticity and effort.”

According to Bassy, he began diving into other musicians' work during quarantine. One such artist was Henry, who turned out to be his neighbor. "Free Like Me" is Bassy's latest material released on his own label New Gold Metal / PIVTL Projects.
