Today, newcomer Piers Thibault (who goes simply by PIERS) is sharing his new song "Dusk."

The French ambient artist is giving Variance an early listen of the delicate new offering, which is a preview of his upcoming debut Ire EP, which is out April 15 via INSRT. The project is influenced by the lushly empty sounds of Erased Tapes artists like Nils Frahm while also drawing inspiration from the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and Bon Iver.

"Very much like the sunrise I see after working late at night, 'Dusk' gives me the warm feeling of the sun on my skin and a beautiful dark orange sky, which is very comforting to me," says Thibault of the new song. "I always feel at home when I play it back to myself."

As for the full EP, it is a project reflective of love and loss, as Thibault experienced the dissolution of close relationships while also dealing with his father's cancer diagnosis, experiences which affected the music he was making.

"I’m a very sensitive guy, and the last five years were filled with disappointment,” he says. “I lost a lot of people in my life, from friendships to relationships. I didn’t want to put my emotions on other people, but I needed to express those feelings that I felt.”

Hear "Dusk" now.
