CHVRCHES is back with a new song today, which is more of a one-off single as they open a new chapter.

The trio made up of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty returned Friday with their new song "Over," which they teased last week on social media as a "brief reprieve" from the "horrors" of their fourth album, 2021's Screen Violence. It comes as they have also signed a new record deal with Island Records.

According to the band, the song has actually been floating in bits and pieces since 2017 but they have only recently finished it as they march on to album number 5. They also shared a video today for the new track.

"We finished this song over the holidays and the way it explores themes of trying to exist in an escapist dreamscape when life is difficult felt timely so we didn't want to wait to put it out," the band said on Instagram ahead of the release.

"'Over' is a song that we wrote with Oscar Holter, a producer we really respect and admire," the band said in a press release. "Normally we collect songs over the course of months (or years!) until we have an album's worth of material, but this time we just wanted to release something we were excited about and give the fans something new to mark the end of the Screen Violence era, and the start of whatever the next CHVRCHES chapter might be.”

Watch the new video below, followed by the song's lyrics.

[Verse 1]
Sometimes I just drive
Till the night turns off my mind
I'm passing cars
And crowded bars
Never know until I go too far
Confusing faith and fear
Paint a smile from ear to ear
'Cause if I blink
I start to think
I feel nothing, I feel everything

[Pre-Chorus]
I try my best to turn down the noise
And I tell myself that boys will be boys
It's getting harder to breathe
So, baby, put me to sleep
Till it gets better

[Chorus]
So wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And I'll believe it

[Verse 2]
Keep me in the dark
Then fast-forward to the part
With endless nights
And neon lights
I'll be beautiful and starry-eyed

[Pre-Chorus]
I try my best to turn down the noise
And I tell myself that boys will be boys
It's getting harder to breathe
So, baby, put me to sleep
Till it gets better

[Chorus]
So wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And I'll believe it

[Verse 3]
Sometimes I just drive
When I can't turn off my mind
I don't know where
I'll meet you there
Someday

[Chorus]
So wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And wake me up when it's over
It's over
When it's over
Tell me it was all just a dream
And I'll believe it
