If you're not familiar with emerging Minnesota outfit Dad Bod, now is the perfect time to get acquainted. They released a stripped EP called Precursor on Friday and it's stunning.

The four-piece is made up of Callie Marino, Wilson Zellar, Noah Topliff and Alex Gray, and they've been working on a full-length album, but this acoustic project is an appetizer until then, having been recorded by Marino and Zellar in the middle of the pandemic. And honestly, it's the perfect listening for these moments of isolation and pause, as its brimming with Phoebe Bridgers and Big Thief vibes.

According to Marino, the name Dad Bod was picked on a whim before a show in Chicago, but it also "came from this deep-rooted fear I had of people I know linking me to the personal songs I write." It's musically not what you might expect with the name Dad Bod, and that's pretty great.

The band expects to release their full-length record later this summer, but they have yet to share details about that project. In the meantime, Precursor is definitely necessary listening.
