Connecticut musician Jake Huffman has been making some noise recently with his new single “Martyr.” The narrative behind this song is certainly thought-provoking, as Huffman delves into the current world we’re living in. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the phrase “to die on a hill,” Grammarist explains it as the following, “It is either used to help explain how important something is that you would die for it or used as a question to help warn somebody to think more deeply about whether their strong opinion or feelings are worth it.” For Huffman, he shines light on how social media has made it so easy for people to shove their opinion in other’s faces.

The multi-instrumentalist shares further meaning on the single, “The lyrics aren’t about what I personally believe. Everywhere I look people are spouting their beliefs while contradicting themselves in the same breath. The world has become so polarizing and I wanted this song to encapsulate that energy.”

Sonically, “Martyr” packs a punch with powerful percussion, luminous guitars and Huffman’s rugged, yet soulful vocals. This is the type of song that will be stuck on repeat in your head! “Martyr” is off of Huffman’s upcoming EP, which we cannot wait for!
