Actor James Garner has reportedly passed away at 86.
Born in Norman, Okla., the son of a carpenter, he is known as the lead on NBC's The Rockford Files, which earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Actor five years in a row; he finally won in 1977.
His massive film career also included The Great Escape in 1963 and Murphy's Romance in 1985, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. More recently, he was known for his integral role in the 2004 hit The Notebook.
TMZ reports that police were dispatched to Garner's Los Angeles home at around 8 p.m. on Saturday night. A cause of death was not immediately available.
Garner suffered a stroke in 2008, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and he has not worked on screen since then.
