Just two days after releasing her short film Trip, Jhené Aiko unexpectedly released her new album of the same name on Friday.

The singer had shared a handful of new songs earlier this year and back in August she confirmed in a Playboy interview she was readying an album called Trip. But she hadn't formally announced a release date.

“It’s inspired by every type of trip you could imagine: mental, physical, even psychedelic,” Aiko said in the interview “I’m at a point where I put it all in the music. It’s a puzzle I want people to put together.”

The accompanying film sees Aiko starring as a poet, who is mourning the loss of her brother but meets a stranger who invites her on a trip, which leads to romance. The album features Big Sean, Brandy and Rae Sremmurd's Swae Lee, among others.
