While there are a lot of marquee names releasing new music today, newcomer Nic Pool has dropped his debut single "The Falls."

The hypnotic four-minute cut arrived Friday. And while sonically it might give the vibe of being submerged in the ocean on a hot summer day, the inspiration is actually the opposite.

"The song is about how grief and loss can feel like being stuck beneath a waterfall," the Tucson, Arizona singer-songwriter says of the track. "It can derail you, overtake you, numb you, and sometimes it takes years to pull yourself out of the cycle."

Pool has drawn inspiration from the likes of Sade, Bon Iver and Portishead. And the song was was produced by Elle King and Ingrid Michaelson collaborator Elliot Jacobson.
