Google started a new month on Tuesday with a big announcement.
After weeks of rumors, the search-tech company made another big move into the music sphere by revealing it intends to buy playlist-genius app Songza, which launched in 2010.
The Verge reports the acquisition was for an undisclosed amount, although Google is believed to have previously offered as much as $15 million for the music-curating service.
According to an online statement, "no immediate changes to Songza are planned, other than making it faster, smarter, and even more fun to use."
While Google already has its own Play Music service (versus iTunes), it is expected to incorporate Songza's playlist features. Such a move would make it more competitive with Apple's newly acquired Beats Music, the latter of which has tried to copy Songza's formula since its respective launch earlier this year.
