Los Angeles-based Yarin Glam swims through murky waters in her latest single “BLIND” as she opens up about the difficulties of trusting others and identifying their true intentions.
The introspective single shows the artist digging deep into self-reflection, as she navigates friendships and comes to terms with the fact that some people won’t always have her best interest at heart. Feeling metaphorically blindfolded by people's fake words and promises, she struggles to see their true intentions.
The songwriter shares, “'BLIND' is about the people who I thought were my friends but tried to influence me in a negative way and I was too naive to see at the time. I think everyone can interpret this song differently and take it to their own place.”
Breathy vocals echo over oscillating synths, and a determined best, emitting a haunting atmosphere, as she chants, “Oh no I trusted them again, made me think I’d actually made some friends, fool me time and time again.”
Variance Magazine spoke with Yarin Glam about the new single, the story behind the lyrics and upcoming plans for 2024.
“BLIND” stems from your own personal experiences and touches on people who didn’t have your best interest at heart. Can you tell us more about this and how you handled that difficult situation?
I was really young when I first had this kind of experience, so I was naive and trusted people more than I should have. When I become friends with people, I want to believe they have my best interest at heart. Now I know, it’s not always the case. So I’ve learned from it. I don’t take it personally. With time, and growing up you learn how to protect yourself better and I think you’re also better at reading people and situations.
With the release of “BLIND” has it been a therapeutic experience to vent all of your feelings and frustrations?
For me the real release starts in the studio. When I get to write and express my feelings through music. It’s definitely a therapeutic experience since I really get to process those experiences again and let them go.
Is there anything that you have learnt from this experience and what advice would you give to others who may be in a similar situation?
I've learnt to see people for who they actually are, and not what I want to believe they can be. I try to not take things personally because at the end of the day their behavior is a reflection of who they are, not myself.
“BLIND” has an ethereal and haunting feel to it. How does it differ from your previous releases and do you see your sound continuing to evolve in the future?
BLIND is covering a topic I haven’t talked about before in my music, which is why to me it’s different from my previous releases. I think with every song I put out, my sound evolves and changes.
What message do you hope your fans take away from "BLIND"?
If you truly listen to your intuition you can save yourself a lot of heartbreaks. For me, once I’ve opened my eyes and saw people for who they truly are I was able to choose who I let into my life way better.
What else does 2024 have in store for Yarin Glam?
So much. I’m going to release a lot of new music and a new project super soon. I’ll be touring too, which I’ll announce very soon so stay tuned!
