Toronto's Wes Marskell and Jason Couse (aka the Darcys) on Wednesday returned with a fresh new sound and a glossy new single "Miracle."

Coming ahead of the band's first album as a duo and not a quartet, the pair has veered away from their previous art-rock leanings to shinier pop territory. And it's a welcome change.

"We knew we wanted the record to sound modern, pop-minded and sun-bleached," Marskell said of the new material. "And once we managed to assemble our production team I was confident we were going to have one of the best sounding records coming out of Toronto."

After mild success in Canada, the Darcys have been rather open about their hopes of reaching a wider, more mainstream audience this time around, pointing to fellow Canadians Tegan and Sara as inspiration.

"Miracle," which was recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, and produced by Shawn Everett, can be heard below. And if it's just a preview of what's to come, that's definitely a great sign.
