NBC is desperately trying to make Sean Saves the World happen—and it's sacrificing Parks and Recreation in the process.
Things are getting crazy at the Peacock, as the former home of Friends and Seinfeld is shuffling its lineup in hopes of forging a comedy hit. So crazy that Parks is now on hiatus for the rest of the year (minus a Halloween episode, which will now air two weeks late on Nov. 14), while The Voice reruns and Saturday Night Live specials will air in its place, all in an attempt to drive more viewers to its Sean Hayes-fronted newbie, which hasn't been much of a hit.
The news comes just as NBC has confirmed the return of Community on Jan. 2, with Parks tentatively set to return on Jan. 9.
The hiatus is effective immediately, with this week's episode being scrapped in favor of a rerun of The Voice.
Granted, Parks has never been a ratings juggernaut, but a move like this is likely a sign that NBC doesn't see it as having potential to expand its audience any more.
